Most Interesting Anime of 2017
Been looking forward to hearing a joint review, so it’s awesome that you’ve finally got them going. Was a fun and interesting listen, though for a while it was mostly Joe speaking with only the occasional comment by Andrew, but it was enjoyable nonetheless and Andrew did get more active later, so hey.
I haven’t watched ShouMach myself, but I remember having a rather intense first reaction to the synopsis. I loathe stereotyping and I particularly hate gender stereotypes and gender double standards, so you can imagine how that panned out. You’ve got this setting where the girls are all armed, abusive assholes who’ll happily threaten and torment the unarmed guys, yet somehow the guys are the “monsters”. Of course, if one of these guys were to ever turn things back on the girls and do to them what they do to the guys, then he’d suddenly be the most despicable creature in history. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I ranted about this to a friend until I learned that the premise of the show was that a guy who wouldn’t put up with the bullshit was fighting the top warrior girls, which softened my opinion of the show, though just by a bit. I’m personally fed up with shows that try to pass of female-on-male abuse as comedy while the reverse would be considered horrific. Thankfully the show seems to recognize that everyone in this school is a daft, superficial twit and that neither side is particularly worth cheering for. It’s something! xD

I too got a new phone, but not the fancy iPhone X. I actually upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6S. You read that right. I had to immediately get a case as well, because the phone just feels naked and fragile as-is. I buy battery cases, which gives you extra juice- no need to carry around a plug.
Oh, and SPOILERS for Metal Gear Survive, Andrew: The S should stand for something other than survive. People are playing the beta, and they’re not enjoying it. It is a beta, but Metal Gear with no Kojima is not a great idea. Might have LOOT BOXES, though!
