Episode 562: The Legend of the Hinamatsuri Overlord

This week Anime Pulse is brought to you by, Joseph drinking Koshu Plum Wine. We begin by listening to Joseph go on about his success with being placed on the waiting list for an apartment, as well as him slapping his knee about how “he knew it” with the latest Darling in the Franxx. Andrew brings up the upcoming Summer season of anime, and then he gets into the community section with this week’s forums topic. Industry news see topics like the salary of Japans top cosplayer, an animation studio going bankrupt, and a new K-On! manga featuring no one from the previous series. This is our last hybrid show of spring, just in time for summer too! We got Joseph reviewing a badass butler, and Andrew previews a girl from space and space battles in space.

  1. The whole dealio with the Nines in FranXX is actually even weirder than you might think. I believe all of the Nines are androgynous, genderless. It’s why they’re so reproduce by icky, icky reproduction and gender dimorphism.
So they don’t technically have any kind of male-female dynamic going on at all. Though it still seems Trigger stuck most of the masculine Nines in the “receiving” position, for whatever reason.

@Joey: I feel kinda the same about Overwatch 2. Season 1 was quite enjoyable, but season 2 switched the focus from the characters I wanted to see (Ainz, Shalltear, Albedo) to a bunch of nobodies and their stories. I have no interest in lizardfolk diplomacy, or the squabbles between crime gangs and the heroes that want to apprehend them. Give me more of Ainz plotting and scheming please.

  2. In response to Joseph’s comment about an isekai anime coming out even though the manga is not that far, most of the isekai anime that are coming out originate from web novels which are licensed to become light novels with manga adaptations. Most of the time, the manga adaptations are slow to update and are vastly behind in story. Two examples are Tate no yuusha and arifureta whose anime adaptations come out this year but whose manga only covers the first few arcs.
