  1. Resident feminazi chiming in super late, but y’all missed an important chunk in the article that likely fueled the “controversy” – “In the non-fictional manga series The Right Way to Make Jump! by Takeshi Sakurai, first published on Jump+ in 2014, Weekly Shonen Jump deputy editor in chief Sōichi Aida said that there were no female editors working at the magazine. He explained that “Jump’s main target is boys about middle school age.” When asked if he would hire female editors if he were editor in chief, he stated, “No, I’d make the department even more manly!” (Via @kimberlypham__)” This aside from a previous statement that said that Jump had never had a female editor, ever.

The answer to the question itself wasn’t controversial – it was diplomatic, almost exhaustively so – but the bigger context makes Shonen Jump appear to be a “boys only” affair when you look at these facts and comments. Couple that with the (slightly defensive) official statement about it and it starts to feel like good ol’ fashioned institutional misogyny. Womp womp.

    1. Huh… never knew you identified as that XD Anyways, while this is far back enough that it won’t get read out I just wanted to let you know that I’ve read your comment and it was informative. Didn’t know anything about these statements so that’s good to know.

      Thanks for the comment!
