Manga Pulse 473: Token Takehashi

Look at the hands on that clock, Steve. It looks like the hands are running backwards. I guess that means it’s time to do the Time Warp again. Because we seem to have fallen into the past through some sort of paper lined gateway. By that we mean manga and manga that’s aged. Has it aged like wine or soured like vinegar?

Tim starts us off with InuYasha. That’s right, the origin of our term Takehashi Tokens has finally made it into the show via a request. Plus it’s a three volume omnibus! And Tim was only really exposed to the anime back when the cable anime boom was going. Once the tokens get established the story sidelines those in favor characters for at least a bit. The focus on character gets the first three volumes a Crackers.

Weltall has another Takehashi series in Urusei Yatsura. The first volume is quite informative for our manga minds. It’s clearly the template where Takahashi developed a lot of stock characters she would go onto use in future series. Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Guy with a girlfriend who becomes wildly jealous when another girl flirts with him. It still gets a Borders.
