Post by VicMonado »

So you know the score, ending the year on a positive note what were the best anime you watched this year. If yer struggling it doesn't have to be anime that released 2018, just something you watched this year.

Shows I watched and thought were good:
Steins;Gate 0
Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online
Mahou Shoujo Site

I have a habit of losing interest quickly but these ones kept me till the end. :ok-hand:

The year 2018 had a lot of very good, entertaining anime. We had a lot of new seasons or a second series to good anime from previous years, but while many were entertaining, most proved to me to be less satisfying — so I will not mention them. Instead I want to point out some good, if not great anime that entertained me and my family this year. Some of these are Winter season shows and are still ongoing, thus I have not gotten to the end of their current run, so they might yet fumble. And while some of these might have aired in the latter part of 2017 in Japan, for one reason or another we were unable to watch until early this year.

Violet Evergarden
Fate/Extra:Last Encore
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Goblin Slayer
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Zombie Land Saga
Darling in the Franxx
Hinamatsuri
Girls Last Tour
Made in Abys

Despite this being a great year for Anime, I cannot name any of these as being _great_ anime, at least not yet. Those that completed their seasons proved to be good, but not great (often so-so). I have a good feeling about Goblin Slayer that it could go on to proving to be a moving, very significant story, for it has great potential. Let’s hope they do not mess that up in this and subsequent seasons. The same is true for Made in Abyss. I welcome another season of any of the above.
Wherever you go... there you are.

A couple of shows for me are: Violent Evergarden, B: the beginning, and recovery of a MMO junkie.

for me its a tossup between Godzilla 2:City on the edge of battle and Expelled from Paradise. both movies and both very good.
honorable mention goes to Last Hope, i wanted to love this series but a plot hole kinda killed it for me 4 episodes in.

Winter 2019
Haven't got a chance yet to give most of these a look but Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari is going to be up there. The pre-relase episode has held up to the manga so far. Looks to be a movie heavy Winter season as most of the others don't look like they would interest me. Though I'll give them a go for that rare show that you can stumble upon.

Fall 2018
Goblin Slayer
- Great from beginning to end for the first season. Likable characters and the fights feel like they have risk to them unlike some other shows similar nowadays with a few exceptions. The main character does seem like he would die if not for his comrades or if he lacked preparation. Will have to see how this does come season 2.

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)
- An Isekai actually done right and doesn't take itself too seriously. Will have to see if this continues or if it falls off the cliff like other shows in this genre.

SSSS.Gridman
- Nice remake from an older show and it was an enjoyable with that super robot feel.

Radiant
- Feels like this show could take off if it get popular. Seen about 8 episodes at this point and reminds me a bit of the 90s era of anime. Has that French feel due to the comic originating for there.

Golden Kamuy
- Big fan of the manga and the show it still going strong in season 2. The mix of Japan's native culture and the "modern" clashing give it a unique feel.

Spring 2018
Megalo Box
- Show made to celebrate the Ashita no Joe anniversary. Underdog feel to the show which fits most boxing shows. Set in the future where boxing with out an assist from machinery is considered suicide and our main character is up to the task. Had a great gritty feel to it. Great boxing anime with some of the usual stuff thrown in.

Winter & Summer 2018
Kind of light on shows I would tune in to but enjoyed a few episodes here or there. No real standouts.

May be a bit late for the show but Happy New Year everyone!
