Chronologically, I'm not positive. There are some series that you should watch, and some you shouldn't. And since I want to be biased, I believe Gundam 08th MS Team is the best. Sure, Gundam Wing is cute and all, but 08th MS Team gives you more depth and more badassery.
08th MS Team, however, takes place mainly on earth and not space, specifically in Africa.
If you want to watch Gundam stuff that takes place in space, sure go with Wing. I have not seen any Gundam that is newer than Wing, so my opinions are also dated. I'm also going off of what I can remember from Toonami (PBUT) _________________ A devout disciple of the Paltir faith. |

Okay, lets do this. I myself am currently watching the original series, the UC timeline, in universe chronologically. So, I am watching the series progress, not the airing of the series.
The UC timeline is ordered as such:
Mobile Suit Gundam (the original series)
Gundam Igloo (all 3 ova series)
Gundam: 08th MS team (one of my favourites)
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (One of my least favourites)
Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (where I am now)
Zeta Gundam
Gundam ZZ
Gundam Char's Counterattack
Gundam Unicorn
Other timelines are less extensive.
G Gundam is in its own timeline FC.
After War Gundam X takes place in its own timeline AW.
Turn A Gundam (∀ Gundam) has its own timeline CC.
Gundam Wing has its own timeline AC (After Waltz comes after the series)
Gundam 00 takes place in the AD timeline.
The final timeline (for now at least) is CE. CE has:
Gundam Seed
Gundam Seed Destiny
Gundam Seed C.E 73: Stargazer
Pick from any one of these timelines, since they are all separate stories into themselves, albeit many of the settings and plot are similar between series. _________________

I'd advise against watching the UC series in chronological order as it's a rather daunting task and not entirely necessary.
If you are the sort that likes shonen fighting shows, Gundam Wing is a good segue into Gundam in general. I'm not entirely sure why, but people who like one tend to like the other.

hmmmm both very good points and thanks for the info. It is easier to understand now; it was so confusing because there was just SO MANY different Gundam series that i had no idea where to start. I was thinking of starting either Gundam Wing or Seed as those seem to be the most popular (from what i can gather).
Yeah i agree, the UC series in chronological order IS a bit daunting so perhaps i'll go with One_Sin's list, starting with Gundam Wing.
But right now i'm just watching so much i'll put Gundam on the back burner and get to it when i've got less anime to watch so i can fully concentrate on it. _________________ if you wanna check out what ive read and seen click on the following links:

Wing is a great start. I tried watching Seed, but it didn't catch me like Wing did. _________________ "Thow shall not kill remember?! What the hell kinda churchman are you anyway?"

I agree with a lot of people start with Wing. Then I would watch the UC series. _________________

You should start with Gundam wing, and then Eureka seven, and gundam 00 season 1 and 2. Then maybe watch seed, but only if you like your main characters to cry a lot. I mean a LOT! _________________

That is a false statement. Eureka Seven was produced by Bones, Gundam is always produced by Sunrise. The director of Eureka Seven has never worked on anything Gundam related, however he has directed RahXephon. _________________

Disagree strongly on these two, they're worth the watch. There's a reason we air Char's Counterattack every single year at AWA. _________________ LJ | DeviantArt | Gendou Anime Music

You only need to watch G Gundam.
but seriously, just watch them in timeline order. I feel that's the best way. _________________

I personally feel the Gundam series that got it all as right as any Gundam ever has is Gundam 00. Good characters, complex plot, great Gundams and other mecha and some awesome animation and battle sequences. Plus being set in our own AD timeline a couple hundred years or so down the line, it feels almost as if it could really happen. _________________
