I have a theory that they only pretend to be mentally retarded to produce ratings.
Seriously what the fudge is wrong with them? Where dropped on their head as kids? Did someone beat the crap out of them with a video game system? You know what I bet that's what happened! Someone took a took a NES smashed it against their head then spend the next hour violating them with the broken remains! _________________

That seems to be the case Noir. I say that Fox is just doing this because they are all Christians. No offense to any Christian here, but there are some who just take it a step too far and aren't willing to admit that they can very wrong at times. Hell, the people on Fox go out of their way to insult the gaming industry(and every other industry), and if they could, would slander every up and coming game so much that the game would be forced to stop production. Christians have done the same for fear that the game will cause their children to become followers of Satan. Seriously? So many games I was hyped up for were cancelled because of dick moves like that. Honestly, I agree with Noir. These people must have had something happen to them I their youth that caused then to hate video games for life. _________________

It doesn't surprise me. Faux News does this to everyone. They are like the most biased news crew out there. Not saying that others aren't but they like to show it off for some reason. Don't even get me started on Glenn Beck. Oh and in the first link you provided, Geoff, the defender, asked Cooper if she played it before. She laughs and says "no" I so wanted to punch her in the face. No lie. But I don't take Faux News seriously. I decide if I want a game. And another thing, there is so much sexual content on regular cable that any 12 year old check that shiggity out on their own. I think that's enough for now. I'd rather not wreck my brain on Faux News. Oh, Faux news is pronounced Foe. FYI
P.S. if you are reading this on VGP, then we are still alive. _________________

Neither side argued their point effectively, while Ambrozy got a zing in the beginning, he dropped the ball later on. Simply giving a couple numbers to back up his statements about the success of the Video Game industry would have won it in my eyes.
As to the overarching issue, Fox has their agenda, just like every other news network. The same drivel comes out of MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, (off topic: do people still watch ABC?) and the rest, admittedly aimed at other targets. This agenda will color any story regardless of the facts associated with it. The fact that people are still surprised by this disappoints me. _________________

A better question is - why are you watching Fox News to begin with?
(and this is coming from a conservative Roman Catholic. I just gag when anybody quotes 'Fox News' as a reliable source of information.) |

I feel like fox news is a heavy side of societal misunderstandings of video games. If you look alone at the piece on Mass Effect, FOX allows bias towards video games in general to color there opinion on a game. FOX had two polarized sides of the argument speaking and like always the loud, angry, aggressive side made more noise. The anchor covering the story obviously had a bias towards video games as did most of the discussion panel. FOX did misrepresent the game, it did attempt to show two arguments and did something even more profound.
FOX coverage said and I quote "At the end of the day...it's up to parents to control what it is they are seeing". The anchor covering the story did unfortunately follow up with "It is, unfortunately, and that makes it a much harder job". Copper's statements were slanderous but the truth was that she was ignorant of the facts and blinded by bias. FOX did not do as horribly as we think they did. They are not an unbiased news source and that aside FOX just had someone admit that parent are the ones responsible... see yeah. |

Is fox not afraid if the negative impact this is going to have on them? They should at least watch what they say on public television. And I can bet money that there are more gamers out there than loyal fox news supporters. They gain nothing by sayin this. I mean, it's fine to express and support personal opinions and all, but this is taking it a little too far.
Fox news is so blinded by biasness.
And I must say, I completely disagree with them. _________________

Having played and beaten each mass effect multiple times I can say I'm a pretty big fan. It's probably my favrite series. After seeing Fox's interview I am convinced that a four year old who only plays black ops is more qualified then there "experts". One interview I saw actuly had a person who knew what he was talking about but the one female reporter wouldn't stop cackling about frontal nuduty which isn't there so he couldn't talk. _________________

Amazing i saw this video when i first came out. I can't believe people these days. If it was up to Fox News they would have the whole world run by them. Games and anime are newer forms of ART. Some nude never killed anyone. Look at antion Rome. I can't remember the statue name but there is full stone nude. Fox news would not bat an eyelid and children are allowed to do papers on it. However the same thing in a video game is something that the devil himself made. 13 year old boys and also girls are interested we are humans for starters and the way we evolve is knowledge, as such looking at pornographic content is a way of finding information. Mass effect was a game that was given 12 because the British Board of Film Classification (they do games for us as well I believe) believed that that is the correct age rating, if it was given a X rating then the game would not be sold and might have not been as successful and won as many awards as it did if the game was evil. This is something I constantly rant about to friend when we talk about the age in games. Look at a few years ago. A game such as Doom would have been given an 18 if there was a age ratting for games. However now it is tame and is a 12+ the same as mass effect. These people on Fox news can only remember games like doom and believe all games are like that. I will be fighting for games to get an equal right as other forums of media like film, music and TV. _________________

Fox news is like the evil step mother in Cinderella, it is never a good thing to listen to her and she is only in it for the money.
Fox is paid for by republicans, it would be easier to say that you could call Fox news "Republican News", I don't even need to watch more then 30 minuets of Fox reporting then to figure this out.
If you want a good take on Fox news, watch John Stewart and Jack Black; they know that Fox news is full of a bunch of fat old men who only care about money in their pockets and greasy cheeseburgers in their gluttonous bellies.
I don't even hate Fox anymore, since I too have felt the sway of cash greasing my palms; not for misreporting news, but in the end its the same thing.
Check out this comic by Ctrl Alt Del for a pretty accurate portrayal on the issue. _________________

God I hate all of you except Contra.....
Here's the thing. The VAST majority of video games wouldn't EVER qualify for the NEA grants. So in part, Fox news is right! Suck on that nerds!
Contra is the only one of you that even understand the issue. Don't be pissed at fox. This is the state of ALL news organizations, even the colbert report and Jon Stewart are biased, though less so than others. Flat news doesn't make money anymore, plain and simple. Jesus. So let's put that behind us and look at the real issue, because arguing that "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, Fox news is being bias against something I like" is stupid. Have you ever considered their points in this argument? Oh, heaven forbid you look at both sides. Jesus, you are just as bad as they are.... You kiddies are exactly what's friggin wrong with America!
Enough of my breaking you down and making you cry, let's actually look at the issue? As Contra mentioned, the fat nerd that fox picked to 'argue' dropped the ball, hard. Like a awesome man dropping the soap in prison hard....
Yes baldy's talking head argument was mostly just conservative talking points, but at least it had a common theme. What did the nerdiest looking guy i've seen on tv do? Argued that, 'because video games have artists working on them, they are art, and deserve public funding'....
Hell of an argument. That totally shows how much our lives are enriched. And saying that the video game industry is one of our strongest, yet give no numbers, figures, or even a hint of a figure? Jesus dude, way to let us down. Did you spend all of 5 minutes coming up with that argument?
Are 'Video Games', which are essentially just 'Interactive Media', capable of enriching our culture and education though valid artistic venues? Hell yes they are. The same way SOME music get's NEA grants, but say, 'Blood of my zombie blood' by Screamocorexxx, ISNT worthy of a grant.
I think I got off track. Oh, right, being pissed off at you lot. Seriously, I want to have valid discussions with you folks, but reading through this thread makes me SICK. You are just the other side of the Fox News coin, lashing out when whatever thing you enjoy gets blasted by them, even if you have no idea what the issue is about.
So, examples of games that demonstrate artistic expression, or valid educational merit, and why.
Reader Rabbit and Math Blaster: Taught typing, reading, spelling, general math, and quick reactions all at once. Why do you think I'm so much more insightful than the lot of you. Never played 'em at school, but I think it would be a great tool for kindergartners. Would familiarize them with a computer at an early age, they were pretty fun games, and also to utilize their basic math and spelling skills in a non-classroom environment.
