I recently got seriously into anime and I have my favorites that everyone likes to watch: Code Geass Death Note bleach ect... but I was wondering what are some of the best animes to own as dvds?
(and yes it is a "what is you favorite anime question") Wink

Most of the series I own range from 26-50something episodes. (Chobits, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, Trigun)

However I do own all the pre-Shippuden episodes of Naruto and the first hundred or so of Bleach. However, the cost is what keeps me away from some of the longer series. (I would love to have all the One Piece episodes but there's just too many. Maybe if I had started buying them when they first started coming out...)

I would say buy the series that you like to watch again and again. I don't think there's a point in owning something you're only ever going to watch once.

I know what you mean. I feel the same way about most of those series as well. I would love to buy alot of others as well. Having to suffer through the 4kids dub of one piece is reason enough alone to watch the funimation dub. It sure is hard being cheap Smilie_PDT . I would however love to own the Hellsing Ultimate collection but its really expensive and its only a couple of episodes.

The only anime I actually own is Karas. I've been wanting to buy The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, but HMV only has the special edition which is like $50, and the normal dvd, when the do have it, which is rare, is like $35.

It's a 6 episode OVA. Pretty good.

Some good ones to buy:

Trigun
Cowboy Bebop (This one especially)
Read Or Die (OVA's)
Full Metal Panic! (there are three seasons)
Chrono Crusade

These are all very worthy of your money and time.

In my personal opinion i think that Full Metal Panic FUMOFFU is a great one to own. It is Technically the second season in the series (even though half the series is before and after a key point.) but it does stand alone if you want to just watch that you wont be missing very much. nor will it take away from the entertainment value too much

well, not specifically about which anime to own but, on the topic. I'm not sure if you've heard of it but there's a website called rightstuf that sells all kinds of anime/ manga/ Japan related products. They sell the anime at reduced prices from normal retailers like borders and barnes & noble.

Alignment You! You! is the best one to own! Proud owner myself. You will not be dissatisfied. Negima!? is another good one to own. I need to find the mantas for it so I can put it on my iPad.
