I have been following several Youtubers and videogame pundits who have been noting the number of anime-inspired video games, particularly MMO's and other online games. I can name many that I like, but I will keep it to three, with a bonus:
(1)
Tales of Berseria is my favorite JRPG at the moment, as its animation was done by notable Anime studio Ufotable. Extremely well-done.
(2) My favorite of these all, so far, is (believe it or not) is
SAO: Fatal Bullet, which is a single-player RPG that tries to simulate the feel of an MMO in the Sword Art Online Gun Gale Online universe. Even though I roll my eyes now at anything SAO, this game held my attention. It's not bad, and I ended up playing it entirely through and most of the first DLC's.
(3) I'm going to mention as my third pick, the one that has the least to do with Anime, but by golly, it deserves a mention for its infamy as an anime-inspired dating sim. Of course, I refer to
Doki Doki Literature Club. I don't think I have to elaborate why.
To re-cap, I am still looking for the perfect or near-perfect Anime-inspired game. A game that truly allows one to immerse oneself in their own Anime-style world and story. There are some candidates on the horizon, and the one I am beginning to have a lot of hope for is Bandai-Namco's
Blue Protocol. It will not arrive to us in the West before some time next year, if we're lucky, but when it does, I will be there to try it out.
