Ah, too many to list... I will give the most recent of examples, some of which always induce "the cringe" in many others:
(3)
Domestic Girlfriend (
Domesutikku na Kanojo). This was just sensationalized soap-opera drama, with needless over-reations, misunderstandings, intrigue and scandal-ridden behaviors, intermixed with syrupy characterizations. Not my usual fare, but I still enjoyed it, even to the point of going beyond the first season and reading the manga to its conclusion. Yep. And in retrospect, I'm not sure at this point I would do so again, if given a chance to do it over. Still thinking about it.
(2) Speaking of "re-do's":
Redo of Healer (
Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi). This was a bad series because it is pretty much just a hentai, and it is a hentai more for its "revenge porn" than it is for its actual sex. Still, I had to watch just to see how far they're going to take this.
(1) Finally, the most controversial series of late,
Rent-A-Girlfriend (
Kanojo, Okarishimasu).
Yeah, I know...
Is it bad? Yes. Is it the ultimate of cringe-fests? Certainly. But did I
enjoy it? Yes, I guess I'd have to say so. Despite it's starting premise and the bottomless depths of bad behavior that its characters descend, still I enjoyed the
possibility of a possible redemption story -- not that it has been realized in this first season, mind you, but its is still there (despite what many want to believe), so far.
