Like any story telling medium Anime has taken ample opportunity to explore many creative ways in which we can get royally screwed. In the spirit of that I would like to know your top world ending events in anime.

p.s I will also except events that ALMOST ended the world but were prevented.

I'm going to have to go with the pollution and robo apocalypse of the Future Century in G Gundam. In this alternate universe the richest powerful have moved from Earth into the space colonies and have left it to be a battleground fighting for dominion over which neo-nation gets to rule the government for 4 years. With the brutal robot battles polluting the rest of the world 10 times over the remaining surviving people of the planet hire criminals and assassins to assassinate the world champions to end what they believe is a pointless battle. Sure the world is gone to hell and back but at least we get cool robot fights.
