Toei Expands Online Anime Service
Building on its Anime BB and Tokusatsu Anime Archives serivices, Toei will launch Anime BB Premium, giving Japanese users access to 40 anime titles and over 1,200 episodes. Single episodes will be 100 yen each, with value packs also available. Toei expects to bring in 600 million yen from the service next year and one billion yen in 2008.
Negipod Arrives in December
The so-called Negipod, a 30GB iPod with 40 preloaded Negima songs and an engraved illustration, will street in Japan for Ã‚Â¥54,800 (~$470).
Otaku Space Tourist Fails Physical
34-year-old Gundam fan Daisuke “Dice-K” Enomoto has been bumped from his September 14 space launch after failing a physical. He was to have dressed as Char when he took off for the International Space Station.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Hits Theaters October 20
Robotech.com announced this weekend at Anime Evolution that Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles will receive a limited theatrical release on October 20. The DVD will be issued November 21.
Godchild Not Returning to Shojo Beat
Viz has informed us that there are no plans for Godchild (Count Cain) to return to Shojo Beat. “We periodically switch out stories to keep the magazine fresh,” explained Evelyn Dubocq, adding, “Pulling the manga from the magazine lets us put the graphic novels out more quickly.”
Venus Versus Virus Anime Announced
Reportedly Atsushi Suzumi’s moe supernatural action manga series Venus Versus Virus will be adapted into an anime television series directed by Shinichiro Kimura (Hand Maid May, Cosplay Complex, Burn Up Excess) and animated by Studio Hibari (Happy Lesson, Saber Marionette J).

Anime Pulse Wins Best Podcast Honors
The second annual Podcast Awards has recognized Anime Pulse as the internet’s best podcast in the “Cultural/Arts” category. Anime Pulse will receive its award at the 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo to be held on September 29-30 in Ontario, California.

Otakon 2006 attracted 22,302 attendees. Last year the convention was capped at 22,000.
Fist of the Blue Sky Anime
Comics Bunch Magazine has announced plans for an anime adaptation of Fist Of The Blue Sky. In July 2002, the ill-fated Raijin Magazine announced that a TV series based on the Fist of the North Star prequel would premiere on Japanese TV in October 2002.

Suzumiya Haruhi Garage Kit Sells For $3,000
Livedoor News has reported that a limited edition assembled and painted garage kit of Suzumiya Haruhi originally sold for 15,000 yen ($129) recently sold on Yahoo Auctions for 340,000 yen ($2,931). Yurisai Event Scheduled
The organizers of Yuricon will host the one day “Yurisai” event on September 29, 2007, at the Gateway Hilton in Newark, New Jersey. This one-day event will recreate the fun and intimate feeling of Yuricon’s 2005 Tokyo event, including video programming, workshops, panels, a “Yuriket” market, and the chance to interact with some of the biggest names in the yuri scene, including Rica Takashima, creator of “Rica ‘tte Kanji!?”.
Toonami Jetstream Soars to 9.5 Million Streams
Toonami Jetstream logged over 9.5 million streams and 725,000 unique visitors in its first month. The service offers free full length episodes of Naruto, Hikaru no Go, MAR, The Prince of Tennis, and American series like Samurai Jack and Megas XLR.
Negima 2 will be All-New
Negima series 2 begins Ocober 4 in Japan. The series will reportedly have a new story, rather than an further adaptation of Ken Akamatsu’s manga.
TANK S.W.A.T. 01 Translated
This past weekend, Anime Gamers celebrated the grand opning of their new store location in LA (not an additional opening, the store moved). As part of the celebration they screened some new anime, including TANK S.W.A.T. 01. According to Broccoli’s website, “It’s not our title, but Synch-Point did the translation.” (The Japanese TANK S.W.A.T. 01 DVD released in March did not include a translation).
Armor Core Anime
Animplex has announce plans to produce an OAV based on the Armored Core video game series. No details on when “Armored Core: Fort Tower Song” will be released. The official website is here.

When answering a fan question this afternoon at Otakon, Japanese rock legend Yoshiki announced he will start a band with J-Pop star Gackt.
Go Speed Racer: Waiting for Green Light
The Wachowski brothers’s live action Speed Racer film is “on the starting line awaiting the green light at Warner Bros,” according to Production Weekly. The production has reportedly taken over the Burbank lot that was home to Bryan Singer’s defunct Logan’s Run remake.
ADV to Release Utawarerumono
ADV announced that they have licensed Utawarerumono, which will be released in North America under the name Shadow Warrior Chronicles. It is expected to be released early 2007.
Sony Opens Door to UK Anime Channel
UK regulator OFCOM has granted Sony a license to broadcast a network called Anime+.

Death Note Locks up Japanese TV
The Madhouse-animated adaptation of the Death Note manga will air October 3 at midnight on Nippon TV in Japan.
Gundam/RuroKen Seiyuu Dies
Hirotaka Suzuoki, the seiyuu (e. Japanese voice actor) for Bright Noa in the original Gundam and Saito Hajime in Rurouni Kenshin, died from lung cancer this past Sunday. He was 56. He also did voice work for Dragonball Z as Tien and Ranma 1/2 as Kuno, among other roles.
Newtype Hypes Evangelion Scoop
September’s Newtype Japan advertises an “extra large scoop” on Evangelion in the October issue. Whether it is related to Hideaki Anno’s new project is unknown. The issue streets September 10.
Maison Ikkoku Drama Update
According to TV Asahi’s official website for Maison Ikkoku, Misaki Itou has been cast for the part of Kyoko Otonashi in the upcoming Maison Ikkoku live-action drama (previously reported on here, however they are still looking for a suitable actor for Godai and have sent out an open casting call for the part.

Sakura-Con Announces First 2007 Guests
Sakura-Con has announced that American voice actors Vic Mignogna and Doug Smith will attend the 2007 10th anniversary convention as guests of honor. The 2007 Sakura-Con will be held at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington on April 6-8, 2007.
Naruto Ninjafest Kicks Off
Naruto Ninja Dome ’06 commenced today with voice actors Junko Takeuchi and Kazuhiko Inoue recording fan messages for a radio show. The 5-day festival, which attracted about 250 fans today, is held at Prism Hall in the Tokyo Dome City convention complex.
