Listener Review

Sakana provided the below review of Midori Days (Midori no Hibi)

Hi everyone! Today’s manga review (first and hopefully not last) I would like to talk about Midori Days or, Midori no Hime. (?)

Let me start off by saying, this is a book aimed at guys. Girls will most likely not be a fan of Midori Days. This manga follows Seiji Sawamaru, a high schooler, better known as “Mad Dog Sawamaru”. Seiji is the punk trouble maker, though he is not in a gang, he certainly gets into trouble with a lot of them. Most of these gangs are attracted to Seiji because of his “Devils Right Hand.” Although its sound like a super power it just means his right hand is a better punch then his left. Seiji is skilled fighter, so to classify one part of his body as really strong made me assume he needed his right hand to deliver a final punch, but that’s not the case. Anyway, Midori is a shy freshman who attends a different school, then Seiji, but has had a secret crush on Seiji since she first laid eyes on him. (she does take it a little far though, putting a framed picture of him on her nightstand, one he didn’t know she took. [Stalker]) One night, after 17 years and two months without a girlfriend, Seiji shrieks “I don’t care who I just want someone to be my girlfriend!” The next thing he knows, a miniature, puppet sized Midori is on his right hand! Midori is just as confused as Seiji when this happens, but she couldn’t be happier! She sets to work, making her own cloths, making Seiji meals and taking notes for him in school. Seiji gets over the shock quickly, and continues to be a bad-ass, but at the same time is careful to not use Midori’s skull as knuckles. Its just Seiji luck when immediately after Midori appears on his hand, a few girls start falling for him!

This book is hilarious. Living with someone on your right hand makes even day to day tasks funny. The characters have layers and there is an interesting plot line. The side characters have a flare for stealing the spotlight as well. Ayase, the Student Council Vice President, has a huge crush on Seiji, and her many attempts to make him fall in love with her always go horribly. Kota is a young boy Midori’s age, and her best friend. He misses Midori, and is having trouble staying loyal to her, since he is developing his own little crush on the “Mad Dog”. Rin is Seiji’s older sister, who is in a gang. She is drunk most of the time, but she cares about her brother, even though she beats him most of the time. My favorite character next to Ayase and Rin is Lucy, the dumb American. Lucy believes that men still commit suicide as samurai and that Japanese women can shoot fire from their breasts. This is a particularly hilarious page in the book. Making fun of Americans is done in such a playful way; I don’t think anyone would be offended.

These books defiantly have nudity. If you need to catch up on the female anatomy, check out this book. Full body nudity of Ayase, tiny and big Midori are not uncommon. Men on the other hand, keep their close on, ok maybe a shirt comes of or pants fall down, but all you see is butt and pecks. Nothing more.

This book’s interesting premise is what drew me in, and it’s characters and warmth is what kept me reading. I most definitely give this manga the equivalent of a download now.
