Details of CLAMP Autographing Sessions Announced
Famous Japanese Artists Scheduled to Appear at Anime Expo 2006

New York, NY (June 21, 2006) Manga superstars CLAMP announced last month that they would be making their first-ever U.S. public appearance at Anime Expo held in Anaheim, California, July 1 to July 4. For manga and anime fans in the United States and throughout the world, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this influential group. The visit is being
co-sponsored by Anime Expo, Del Rey Manga and Funimation Entertainment. Details on CLAMP’s two autographing sessions at Anime Expo are as follows:

Attendees at CLAMP’s panel on 2 PM Saturday will be selected at random to attend one of two autographing sessions. The autographing sessions will be held on Sunday, July 2. CLAMP will be signing exclusive pre-printed paper boards (also known as in Japan as shikishi) featuring CLAMP characters that will be provided to the winners.

About CLAMP
CLAMP consists of four female artists, Satsuki Igarashi, Ageha Ohkawa, Tsubaki Nekoi and Mokona, who have created their own original story and characters in the Japanese graphic novel form known as “manga”. They made their debut as manga artists in Japan in 1989. Since then have become bestselling authors, and animation films based on their work have been prominent on both TV and the cinema screen. CLAMP has also been at the spearhead of the current flux and rise in popularity of Japanese anime and manga in the U.S., with titles such as Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Chobits – available from Tokyopop. Among the manga and anime audience, CLAMP is one of the single most recognized names. The two series that they are currently writing in Japan, Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC, are both being published in English by Del Rey Manga.

From Naruto Sneakers To NERV Sandals
Mmm, more Eva milking. You probably won’t be able to buy these NERV flip-flops unless you happen to live in Japan, but you can still admire them from afar. According to Akadot, they’ll go on sale in Japan in July.

X:Re-Mix at Anime Expo
Geneon will be selling copies of their X:Re-Mix at Anime Expo. The new X DVD boxed set includes remixed audio and re-encoded video, as well as new bonus material including the “An Omen” bonus episode. There will also be a limited edition version with a velvet cover. The set will go on sale at retailers on July 11.

Transformers Actors Train with US Air Force
Military.com profiles an Air Force Airman who helped train actors for Michael Bay‘s Transformers movie. The film will be out July 4, 2007.

Captain Tsubasa Joins Japanese Soccer Team

Tokyopop Expands to Australia and New Zealand
Earlier this month Tokyopop announced that it had expanded operations to New Zealand and Australia through a partnership with Funtastic. Funtastic recently acquired Australia’s Madman Entertainment, however Tokyopop deal is independent of Madman. Tokyopop books now have official distribution channels on every continent except Antartica.

Gatchaman CG Film in Production
Imagi Animation Studios and Tatsunoko Production will produce a Gatchaman CG-animated film for theatrical release in the US. The film will be written and directed by Kevin Munroe, who is also writing and directing Imagi’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CG movie.

Live Action Devilman Acquired
Media Blasters has picked up the 2004 Devilman live-action film. No release details are available yet.

Witchblade Acquired, Positioned for Adult Swim
Funimation has acquired the Witchblade anime, according to an announcement by Top Cow’s Matt Watkins last weekend at WizardWorld Philadelphia. Watkins also said Funimation is in talks with Cartoon Network to air the series on Adult Swim.

Ask CLAMP Online
Anime Expo has opened an Ask CLAMP form, with which fans may submit questions to be answered at CLAMP‘s panel on July 2.

Orange Road on Moratorium
AnimEigo has revealed that its distribution license for the Kimagure Orange Road television series, OAV series, and first motion picture will expire in late July. AnimEigo reportedly tried to renew the license, but was unable to do so. Orange Road DVDs currently in circulation will remain in circulation, but as of the end of next month, AnimEigo will not be able to distribute the series any longer.

Production I.G to Produce Guardian of the Sacred Spirit
As reported in our article about D-Rights’s investment into Geneon, Production I.G is producing an anime TV series called Guardian of the Sacred Spirit. The series will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama and will premiere on NHK in the Spring of 2007.

Funimation has acquired the third season of Full Metal Panic. Volume 1 of Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid will be released October 3. ADV Films released the previous seasons of FMP.

ADV Announces Jinki:Extend
ADV Announced at their Anime Boston panel today that they will be releasing the Jinki:Extend TV anime series. ADV already released the manga series.

Funimation Announces Beck
Funimation announced at the Anime Boston Panel, that they would be releasing BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. The series will be co-directed by Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Bevins, with Mike McFarland as music director.

Gunsmith Cats Burst, Re-Release in 2007
Gunsmith Cats Burst will be issued in the first half of 2007, according to Dark Horse’s Carl Horn. They will also re-release the original Gunsmith Cats unflipped with “80 pages of additional material not previously available in English.”

First Fruit of Appleseed 2
Famitsu Magazine has published the first image of the second Appleseed theatrical movie. The film is directed by Shinji Aramaki, produced by John Woo, and scheduled for release next year in Japan.

Media Blasters to Co-Produce New Kite OVA
At last weekend’s Anime Boston convention, Media Blasters announced plans to co-produce a new Kite OVA, possibly for release next year. The 45 minute long OVA will feature an entirely new cast and story similar to the original Kite.
