Detective Conan Helps Kids Fight Crime
In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Meitantei Conan (Case Closed), several short programs will be produced, in which Conan will explain various anti-crime and child-safety measures to children. Similar material will also be released in print format, and online. On Friday, a life-sized Conan attended a ceremony with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and pledged to support the fight against crimes that target children. Conan will be “dispatched” to nationwide events starting on October 11.
Funimation Channel Hits Hawaii
The Funimation Channel syndicated block is now available on Hawaii’s KIKU-TV, with episodes of Blue Gender, Kiddy Grade, Tenchi Muyo! GXP and Baki the Grappler. The block runs Monday-Friday from 6-7 p.m. and 10-11 p.m. Hawaii Time.
BT’X Set for US
Illumitoon has confirmed its licensing of BT’X and BT’X Neo. The 39-episode series will begin release in 2007.
Gunslinger Girl, New Anime Block on IFC
Gunslinger Girl is coming to the Independent Film Channel as part of The Grind Hour, a new anime block on the network. The block will run Fridays from 11-midnight Eastern with Gunslinger Girl and Basilisk starting January 12 (Basilisk premieres October 6 at 11pm).
Satoshi Kon’s Paprika at New York Film Festival
The New York Film Festival will be showing Satoshi Kon‘s newest movie, Paprika on October 7th. Paprika premiered at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this month and is scheduled to compete in the Tokyo International Film Festival next month. The Japanese theatrical release is scheduled for January, followed by the North American theatrical release in March.

Shakugan no Shana OAV on the Way
Shakugan no Shana Tokubetsuhen: Koi to Onsen no Kougai Gakushuu!, a 30 minute OAV, will be released December 8 in Japan. Meanwhile, volume 2 of Shakugan no Shana comes out November 7 in America.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya TV Season 2 Trailer
There are currently false reports, sometimes attributed to Anime News Network, that there is a trailer for season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. There is no such trailer, and no information available about a possible season 2. This hoax maliciously linked to an automated banning script that ANN uses for maintenance purposes, the script has been disabled until it can be retooled so that it can no longer be abused in this manner.
Wii Bleach To Introduce New Bleach Character
When Sega releases Bleach Wii Shiraha Kirameku Rondo, a Bleach games for the Nintendo Wii, the game will introduce Bleach fans to Altoro, a brand new character whose creation was supervised by Bleach creator Tite Kubo. In the game, Altoro will be voiced by Tomokazu Seki.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Announced
Square Enix will release Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on Japanese DVD and Blu-Ray, they announced today at Tokyo Game Show. According to Gamespot, the new release may include new scenes in the film.

Anime News Service reports that the recently aired 25th episode of the Inukami television series included an announcement of development of an Inukami motion picture.
Koizumi Gets Animated
Fuji TV will launch an anime series based on outgoing Japanese Prime Minister’s five year term on October 10. Tentatively titled Daremo Shiranai Koizumi Junichiro no Shoutai, the show will be animated by Gonzo.
Death Note Movie 2 Trailer Released
The official Death Note live action movie homepage now hosts a trailer for Death Note: The Last Name, the second of two planned films. The trailer is available for narrowband and broadband connections. The Last Name is scheduled for Japanese theatrical release on November 3rd.

Death Note Creator Arrested for Possessing a Knife
Death Note and Hikaru no Go creator Takeshi Obata was arrested yesterday for illegal possession of an 8.6 cm (3.4 inches) knife, according to Tokyo police. He was originally pulled over for driving his car with the headlights off at 1 a.m., and reportedly said he keeps the knife in the car for when he goes camping.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is mentioned in an article about Youtube’s overwhelming popularity with Japanese viewers. According to the article, Youtube’s 6.4 million Japanese visitors last month are cause for concern with Japanese broadcasters. Youichi Ueno, a spokesman for Fuji Television Network, says that Fuji TV has 2 employees who search Youtube for illegal content and send up to several hundred removal requests a day.

Toei Expands Online Anime Service
Building on its Anime BB and Tokusatsu Anime Archives serivices, Toei will launch Anime BB Premium, giving Japanese users access to 40 anime titles and over 1,200 episodes. Single episodes will be 100 yen each, with value packs also available. Toei expects to bring in 600 million yen from the service next year and one billion yen in 2008.

Anime Pulse Wins Best Podcast Honors
The second annual Podcast Awards has recognized Anime Pulse as the internet’s best podcast in the “Cultural/Arts” category. Anime Pulse will receive its award at the 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo to be held on September 29-30 in Ontario, California.

Comics Bunch Magazine has announced plans for an anime adaptation of Fist Of The Blue Sky. In July 2002, the ill-fated Raijin Magazine announced that a TV series based on the Fist of the North Star prequel would premiere on Japanese TV in October 2002.

Suzumiya Haruhi Garage Kit Sells For $3,000
Livedoor News has reported that a limited edition assembled and painted garage kit of Suzumiya Haruhi originally sold for 15,000 yen ($129) recently sold on Yahoo Auctions for 340,000 yen ($2,931). Yurisai Event Scheduled
The organizers of Yuricon will host the one day “Yurisai” event on September 29, 2007, at the Gateway Hilton in Newark, New Jersey. This one-day event will recreate the fun and intimate feeling of Yuricon’s 2005 Tokyo event, including video programming, workshops, panels, a “Yuriket” market, and the chance to interact with some of the biggest names in the yuri scene, including Rica Takashima, creator of “Rica ‘tte Kanji!?”.

Negima 2 will be All-New
Negima series 2 begins Ocober 4 in Japan. The series will reportedly have a new story, rather than an further adaptation of Ken Akamatsu’s manga.
TANK S.W.A.T. 01 Translated
This past weekend, Anime Gamers celebrated the grand opning of their new store location in LA (not an additional opening, the store moved). As part of the celebration they screened some new anime, including TANK S.W.A.T. 01. According to Broccoli’s website, “It’s not our title, but Synch-Point did the translation.” (The Japanese TANK S.W.A.T. 01 DVD released in March did not include a translation).
