  1. King of Fighters is indeed a fighting game, and they didn’t just make “a” KoF game: they make roughly one a year and have been doing so since 1994. Why, it’s practically the Madden of fighting games! You are correct in that the original Fatal Fury was subtitled “King of Fighters,” and so the KoF games contain the characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and various other SNK properties. The franchise is probably one of the top fighting game series in Japan aside from Street Fighter. In fact, Street Fighter and King of Fighters have come together multiple times: Capcom vs SNK parts 1 and 2 are the most notable examples.

At some point, SNK folded and the KoF games started being made by a company named Playmore, which sort of emerged from the ashes of SNK. I’m pretty sure that all of the games Playmore has made are terrible, including one called SvC Chaos (another SNK vs Capcom affair). I could be wrong on that since–like all things, really–I don’t keep up to date with this stuff.
