Popcorn Pulse 244: Accounting Fog

Let’s look over the stack of papers on our desk. Doesn’t seem anyone has died too recently but everyone is talking about scary weather. So it must be summer and that puts us right in the mood to talk about frightening beaches where people die suddenly. No, we’re not talking about sharks or any famous movies featuring them. We have The Fog(1980).

Yes, on the heels of making an iconic slasher film, John Carpenter got license to make a movie about ghost pirates. Naturally they called it the fog because that’s what the ghost pirates send in ahead. Which makes a lot of scenes in this movie like an angry fart is summoning the z team from a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel. Considering the diet most pirates ate, it might be the ghost of a thousand pounds of hard tack. Come listen to us try and discuss meteorological phenomenon that cuts the throats of Californians.

Tim then talks about The Accountant 2[2025]. Remember how Ben Affleck played a trained killer with autism? He does it again, only this time he’s looking for love as well as a kidnapped child. Also Daniella Pineda is in this who you might remember was the worst adaptation of Faye Valentine. It’s her kid that’s being held by some vague cartel but doesn’t do anything about in spite of being on par with Ben. Yes, it’s a mess.

Weltall then has Margin Call[2011]. Do you remember the 2008 housing crisis? Then you’re probably a millennial or some poor bastard who’s had to listen to them bitch and moan. This is a movie about finance that’s very clearly trying to make a statement about finance. Because if there’s one thing Hollywood is good at, is analyzing and depicting very complicated things like finance and distilling it into mustache twirling villains.
