Popcorn Pulse 251: Hot Johnson

Everybody needs socks. Not just the day to day boring old socks, mind you. You need some nice warm, cushy socks that will help keep your feet safe in the colder months. We’re not shilling any particular brand or anything but after watching today’s movie, Jeremiah Johnson(1972), we’re reminded of the need for good winter gear.

Jeremiah Johnson is based very loosely based on both a real mountain man and a period fiction novel. The titular Jeremiah is played by Robert Redford. He comes from nowhere and has decided he will become a mountain man. So it’s his struggle to adapt to the wilderness. This means collecting a couple of random strangers who then get killed by a tribe which Jeremiah goes to war with. It’s all very straightforward and we get into it in more depth.

Weltall has All is Lost[2013]. Robert Redford plays the captain of a yacht which gets caught in a storm. This is normally bad for small craft and there’s no exception here as this ship ends up sinking. Redford moves from one challenge to the next in something of a classic man versus nature story. There’s also very little dialogue leaving Redford to carry it both solo and without speaking much.

Next up is Tim with The Hot Rock(1972). It’s about a diamond heist being carried out by Redford and a small crew. Just after he gets out of prison. The differences here is they end up having to carry out a heist multiple times as they lose the diamond multiple times as well as one of their compatriots. The fun is watching each of these unique heists get executed in series as they work to gain control of the diamond.
