LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB)- May 29TH – It has been announced that Spike Spencer is to revise his role as the voice of the character Shinji in the English dubbed version of Evangelion 1.0.
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, as the film is officially titled, is a 2007 Japanese animated film written by Hideaki Anno. It is the first of four films released in the Rebuild of Evangelion, a tetralogy based on the original anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Hideaki Anno wrote the first movie and is the general director and manager for the entire project. It was produced and co-distributed by Anno’s Studio Khara in partnership with Gainax.
The English voice project was completed late last year in 2008 and was kept under wraps by FUNimation studios in Dallas, Texas. The dubbing was done under the guidance of veteran Director and Voice Actor Mike Mc Farland and stayed true to the concepts and character of the original series. The official announcement was made at Anime Boston over the Memorial Day weekend. Spike made his own personal announcement at the Animazement convention in North Carolina the same weekend to loud cheers of support and excitement. FUNimation’s website currently lists November 10, 2009 as the film’s release date.
The plot is an adaptation of episodes one through six of the original series containing some new or omitted scenes, some with newly-available 3D CG technology. Hideaki Anno himself called it a “faithful remake of the original series”. The next in the series is Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. No word has been given as to whether Spike will continue to be the defining voice of the uber emotionally distraught lead character, and he probably couldn’t tell you if he was, but it is hoped that he will continue on in subsequent parts of this series.
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone received the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair award for anime of the year and Anno received best director. The film was also nominated for Animation of the year at the 2008 Japan Academy Prize. The film also won the Harayasa TÅkaimura Award at the 7th Annual Japanese Otaku Awards on January 5, 2008.
