For this episode RedUnit10, TimeChaser, and I look back over how we got involved in this project, and then discuss our favorite Anime of all time. I’m gonna level with you guys here. I’ve only been listening for about half a year or so, and came here via Anime World Order. I keep listening because it’s an informative show, and I can get a good idea of what’s going in the scene and new shows through you.
The rough spot of the show is that everyone on it sounds very disinterested and there’s an overall tone of people my age (mid 30s range) struggling to retain an interest in what they started this show over. As someone who follows anime, but no longer has the passion for it I did in my youth, I can understand. But there is definitely a tonal issue at work.
That said, I hope the show continues, because again, it’s one of the more informative anime shows out there.
You’re not half wrong, Wolfe. I definitely don’t have the mad passion for anime now that I had in my teens and 20s, but I haven’t totally lost interest yet.
I think my issue is that at this point after so many years, I’ve become set in my ways and I have my collection of anime I enjoy, and much of what is coming out new these days is very uninspiring. That’s not to say there aren’t new shows out there that I find enjoyable, but they seem to be few and far between.

Not sure how long I have been listening but simular to Red, I found the podcast first just searching around after I picked up a Zune and serched for anime podcast and found AP. This was way back with Batou.
But you guys have always put on a great show and keep me laughing while I listen at work!

I understand entirely TimeChaser. And share much of what you expressed above. I’d love to get that raw energy from the industry that I used to, but I’m older, and the industry doesn’t seem to have evolved much in the past two decades. Quite the opposite, in fact. Far too secular, and oriented on siphoning money out of the hardcore otaku in Japan who sustain it from what I’ve gleaned. Still a few gems out appear here and there, and they keep me hanging on, if by a thread.
Hi everyone. Congrats on reaching 400 episodes! I probably started listening around 2009 or so. I don’t tend to participate much, because I always leaned more towards video games than anime. I started listening because I wanted to have something other than a video game podcast in my long drives.
I’ve never been to Japan, so I do find Ichigo’s updates interesting, as well as the random news stories going on over there.
I’ll be sure to keep listening in the future!
I saw Seirei no Moribito on Adult Swim once and thought is was really awesome but shortly after that I got away from anime. A few days ago I ran into someone who is an avid cosplayer and was trying to come up with the name of this anime that I’d seen only once years ago and wanted to check it out again. Just wanted to say thanks 🙂

Ichigo, you speculate in this episode that you are probably the least popular host. I’m not sure where that idea came from, but you are definitely my favourite host of Anime Pulse. I like the current lineup, but I liked your solo shows too! Your reviews are helpful impressions, and you are genuinely enthused about a wide variety of titles. You and I have more in common than the other hosts. I got into anime in 2006, so TC and I don’t have the same heritage despite his excellent reviews and our shared watching of the occasional dub. Red and I don’t have much overlap at all, as we have different levels of empathy and pandering-detection. I think that it’s great to have a cross-section of hosts, but you are definitely my favourite. (And TC’s and Red’s favourite too, I suspect.)
TC, I completely disagree with Wolfe about the tone of the show. I think that it’s completely appropriate, and it’s much like it was when you first joined as host (which was barely a year ago from my back-listening). The only time you sound disinterested is when you’re previewing a series that didn’t interest you, but that’s the thing with previews: it’s difficult to avoid shows that aren’t good because we don’t know yet. I enjoy your reviews of older anime (and newer), and they give me an insight into an entire decade that I haven’t touched. I’ve skipped reviews before for series that I’m about to start or finish, but I’ve never skipped one of your reviews. Please keep making them!
Red, I really like how you complete a series before you review it. I also like how you highlight the voice actors and animation studio and mention their other works. I think that the amount of anime you’ve completed is impressive and really helps with your reviews. I enjoy comparing which character I liked best to the one you liked best. I am thankful for the extra work you do with the forum discussion thread, which is the part of the show that I look forward to most. Even though our opinions aren’t always the same, I’m glad for the diversity that you bring to the show. If the third person was halfway between Ichigo and TC, it would be a less interesting podcast.
