Do you remember that phase of the internet where everything was about pirates? Like everyone would mention when it’s talk like a pirate day and things like that. We go a little further back before all that with Cutthroat Island(1995). A movie you’ll probably see a whole lot on lists of biggest box office bombs. It and Show Girls killed the studio that made it.
Geena Davis is the daughter of a pirate captain. Her dad is one of three pirates that has a map to a massive buried treasure. Her uncle pirate, Frank Langella, kills her dad in his quest for the treasure. So it’s something of a race to get together the three pieces, claim the treasure, and not die to the English navy or other pirates. If that sounds good, just know the execution fails and we talk about it.
Weltall then has Tailor of Panama[2001]. Set in Panama before the hand off of the canal back to the country. Pierce Brosnan is an intelligence agent who’s sent to an undesirable posting because of spy shennanigans. While stationed in Panama, he decides to start feeding bad info to the home office. By using a habitual liar as his informant. Also Jamie Lee Curtis is topless in this which was probably fifty percent of the motivation to make this movie.
Tim then has French Kiss(1995). It’s a Meg Ryan romantic comedy form the nineties. It doesn’t have Tom Hanks in it though. She plays something of a hypochondriac who’s fiance goes to France and leaves her for another woman. So she fights her fear of flying and goes to France alongside Kevin Kline who’s playing a Frenchman who won’t smoke a field of cigarettes in the time it takes to bring drinks to the passengers.
