Manga Pulse 315: Log Master

.hack was incredibly dull and pretentious. This naturally means there are about thirty five sequels that have come out through the years. It never fails to ask the question, can we make dull people playing a dull game interesting? To be fair, we could never get past the early espisodes/volumes. A lot of mangas centered on MMOs also seem to explore in the same vein. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 315: Log Master”

VG Pulse 193: Athtek Snowball

Popcorn Pulse 18: 13 Games

There are a lot of people who will bad mouth the nineties. Mostly those who grew up in the eighties and associate the appearance of acne, hair and an awkward feeling in their pants when they spot their classmates in gym class. There are plenty of good things that came out of it though like the cultural cornerstones of pogs and Spawn which continue to impact millions everyday.

On that note, we decided to talk about The Fugitive(1993). Based on the TV show from the mid sixties, it’s more evidence that an adaptation doesn’t have to suck. It stars Harrison Ford when he possessed intensity and didn’t just stare off into space, wishing someone would run him over and end it. Yes folks, Han Solo wasn’t always a despondent mannequin who mumbled. Continue reading “Popcorn Pulse 18: 13 Games”

Manga Pulse 314: Hot Flags

If there’s one thing that Weltall and Tim are, it’s timely. Their discussion of the latest polio vaccine was the forerunner of talk before the large newspapers dared touch it. The first people to discuss the steam engines and its ramification upon the empire? Tim and Weltall; weeks before the telegraph carried the story across the Atlantic. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 314: Hot Flags”

VG Pulse 192: Sleepless Weaksauce

We start out with side-notes about mini golf before we go over the news, discussing the future of Star-Fox and a rather funny LA Times screw-up. After the news, we go over the forums, and finish off with Xahldera’s listener review of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010! All this and more up next on VGP 192! -Aki Continue reading “VG Pulse 192: Sleepless Weaksauce”

Popcorn Pulse 17: Last Death

Is there anything better than late adaptations of a book to the silver screen? Then Hollywood can botch the whole thing without any input from that pesky author person. Who do they think they are, anyways? Just because they created the world you’re trying to bring to life, what do they know about it?

Speaking of late, adaptations, we did a joint discussion of Death on the Nile (1978). Luckily it’s a rather simple story, from a certain perspective at any rate, and difficult to screw up. For those that read the original story, it follows this adventure of Hercule Poirot as he goes to solve a whodunit on the titular Nile. Surprise surprise, everyone has a motive and you’ll have to watch to find out who isn’t a red herring. Or read the synopsis on Wiki if you’re terribly lazy. Manga Pulse 313: Toking Storm

The ground of manga does not run red with the life blood of eviscerated works this week. Tim reviews Tokage no Ou where a boy with the ability to change his eye color finds out just how useless a power that is when confronted with people who can double jump and cut guns in half with their mind. This is a manga that goes on about pacing and Tim loves himself some pacing so you won’t be surprised at the rating.

Weltall tackles Red Storm which shares part of the name with a Tom Clancy novel(and game from 1988). Unfortunately, it does not show how ‘Murica can defeat the USSR through good ol’ fashioned ‘Murican gumption, grit and folksy sayings. Fortunately it does offer amusing training montages, desert landscapes and an ego big enough to make Wetall take notice.

With those spent the emails generate a lot of pointless conversation this week. So a big thanks to the folks that sent in chatter generation. Without that, how else would we have started trying to decide which actors would belong on our dream Quidditch team and what position they would play? Continue reading “Manga Pulse 313: Toking Storm”
