Libysn is having issues with their cdn1 distribution server. I have opened a ticket and hopefully it will be fixed soon. It’s affecting other podcasts as well.
Batou seems sick and Ichigo is very forgetful this episode. Its frog but still says turtle. I don’t get why Naruto keeps jumping into filler episodes/arc given how far it is and I don’t even read/watch it! I just hear bits and pieces of it from people *sigh* Though I am curious why Naruto has his mother’s last name. Though the oddness in him having his mother’s family name could be just a Western perception but I think that there’s something special about her name/clan and it’ll come up later… Not that I’ll read/watch the series JUST to see if I’m right or not.
When we look to the past, the reason for the filler becomes clear: They’re paranoid that history will repeat itself. They let the anime catch up to the manga back in part one, and what happened? Two entire years of crap needed to be produced just to generate some breathing room, and Shippuuden’s first few arcs were animated at roughly 1 chapter per episode. No doubt the show’s ratings suffered.
At this point, yeah, there’s maybe two years worth of content to animate, but when through with that, and the anime manages to get caught up again, Naruto will be in the same boat. Maybe this train of thought is a little paranoid, but you certainly can’t blame them.
When filler is used as a last-ditch effort to buy time, things go badly. When it’s done intermediately as Shippuuden is doing, and it actually expands upon neglected plot elements from the manga or gives more screen time to the characters who won’t be with us for too much longer, they’re both buying time, and making good use of it. I’d prefer to refer to this type of filler as, “Anime Exclusive Content.” Movies in context, if you will.
Uck. Potatoes. Clearly, I’m one of those bizzaros who like filler. Sue me.
