Episode 555: Spring 2018 Previews #1

A slightly technical problems show of Anime Pulse this week, with Andrew cutting in and out leaving Joseph to twiddle his thumbs. But all the internet shutting down wouldn’t stop these two, as Joseph talks about the passing of his grandfather and Andrew jumps into community stuff. Only one piece of Industry News this week, and it’s all about a recent episode of Darling in the Frankxx pissing off fans. Finally the previews are here, with Joseph showing his disappointment towards the new DxD and his love for the new Lupin. Andrew on the other hand is ok with a new Vampire anime, but has no time for hot guys dressing up like Butlers.

  1. Unfortunately, with regards to the new art style in High School DxD, it looks like the moé look is where the money is at. Not to mention all the plot changes are what the original Light Novel author wanted. And the Japanese market where all the anime is mostly made for could not give even a fraction of a crap about us outside of Japan and what we think, so look forward to the new world order folks!

  2. I was angry at Cross Ange too…because it exists.

So there’s no uncensored version of Highschool DxD streaming? That must enrage the foreign fanbase. the team at VG Pulse also enjoy that show.

  3. I could probably write a small essay about my reasons for hating Suzaku (in fact, I think I did some time ago) and it has nothing to do with him killing Lelouch. It just really pisses me off how he’s japanese and is friends with japanese people while also being loyally obedient to the violenty and cruelly anti-japanese empire. Then you’ve got him doing a buncha horrible things to Kallen, like trying to inject her with the same drug that broke her mother, just to make her cooperate during an interrogation.
Fuck Spinzaku, may he spin into the bloody sun.

On the Drama in the FranXX I get why people are pissed at Ichigo, because I am as well. But I see that as a good thing. If a show can make me feel that strongly about a character it’s done something right. In the end she’s an emotional teen who does some questionable stuff because she can’t tell where her concern for Hiro ends and her selfish desires begin. Nuttin’ wrong about writing her like that. Unless you’re a Hiro x Ichigo shipper I suppose.

And finally, I can see where Joey is coming from regarding the censorship of DxD. That stuff really bugs me as well. Not because I care about dem boobies but because I don’t want someone else to decide what is and isn’t appropriate for me to look at. Shame they decided to ruin a show that’s all about teh sexy by censoring it. Their loss I suppose.

    1. Spinzaku’s just as bad a Lelouch, but at least he didn’t force his own sister into- well, even if it’s an old show, I’ll go no further.

People still associate with The Ol’ Spinzaku, even though they know he is Britannian military. Lelouch is scheming and using the fact that he has an alter ego

      Code Geass: Douchebag City

      1. At least Lelouch totally admits (to himself) that he’s a scheming bastard. Suzaku tries to pass himself off as the ray of hope in a corrupt system while he’s really just another pawn.

And hey, I enjoyed Cross Ange! It sucked in some ways but was awesome in others.

(Note to Andrew: Don’t feel like you have to read the random banter between me and YotaruVegeta on the air. Last time we got into a talk it went on for a while and I don’t wanna bring you death by wall of text… again.)

  4. I don’t know where you watch your anime Joseph but I’ve been watching DxD hero uncensored since day one. Also, as an avid reader of the High School DxD light novels, I am actually happy that the new season chose to stick with light novel canon with episode zero. To light novel fans, DxD born was a travesty which completely disregards plot of the light novel (which I suspect was the main reason for the change in studios). As for the quality of the animation, I can definitely agree that a drop in quality would cause me to drop a series but i’ll confess to having a bias to more modern looking animation as long as it doesn’t look absolutely terrible
