Popcorn Pulse 153: Older Boy

We awoke a sleeping dragon when discussion of Oldboy popped up last time. This means that we have decided to revisit the whole shebang once more. Pop in another quarter and queue up your least favorite song at least seven times, broken up only once by another. Then follow it up with the theme song to Bananas in Pajamas thirty five times.

So yes, we have Oldboy(2003). A Korean adaptation of a Japanese manga. A film in which a man is kidnapped on his daughters birthday and held in a private prison. Upon release, he decides to hunt down who and why he was isolated privately for fifteen years.

Then we have Oldboy[2013]. An American adaptation of a Japanese manga. A film in which a man is kidnapped on his daughters birthday and held in a private prison. Upon release, he decides to hunt down who and why he was isolated privately for twenty years.

Oh no, I’m seeing double. Four Oldboys? So yes, the entire episode is dedicated entirely to the breakdown between the two. Tim even brought along some notes on the two. While so much is a direct copy of the first, there’s a couple of significant differences. Like making Brolin the “regular guy” who’s a functional alcoholic. Also he gets vodka delivery direct to his prison cell for no reason.
