Popcorn Pulse 237: Saint Brotherhood

It’s time to bring back tricorns. Or at least beating up the French. Those snooty wine chugging bastards like to get atop their high horse and tell you how much better they are. So how about a French film where a bunch of Frenchmen get assaulted by an American. And then by another Frenchman. We have Brotherhood of the Wolf[2001].

It’s a fictionalized telling of the Beast of Gevaudan. A true event where the french countryside was terrorized by a, possibly, man eating wolf. A naturalist and his Native American blood brother. They’re investigating the event and discover there’s quite a bit more afoot than meets the eye. An investigation by the church, foul play, political motivations, and Monica Bellucci’s tits.

Tim has In the Land of Saints and Sinners[2024]. It’s a Liam Neeson movie where the official synopsis is that he’s a retired hitman. But when we start, he’s a working hitman who decides to retire about thirty minutes in. Also there are some IRA bombers who go hide out in his village. This is set in the seventies when the IRA was active. And Liam doesn’t get to use his certain set of skills to go killing a bunch of people either.

Weltall has Kraven the Hunter[2024]. Depending on your familiarity with Kraven, your picture of what he is might vary. Would you picture him as the son of a guy played by Russell Crowe? And then becomes something of a conservationist who fights poachers? Probably not but he’s the protagonist and modern Hollywood gets confused at a protagonist who’s not a good person. Also he has vague strength and healing factor as needed.
