Manga Pulse 373: Magic Seed

It’s finally come to pass that we’ll be getting back to doing recommendations for manga very soon. Likely by the next show as it were. We’ve finally caught up on the emails and sorted through the backlog that we let pile up like idiots. Oh, and Tim mentions he’s been combing through videos about recording and voice over, particularly Booth Junkie’s channel on Youtube for those interested in such things.

Tim starts us off by talking about The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. Three students from our world are summoned to a magical kingdom to help fight off the newly risen demon king. No, stifle that yawn right now. While the main character isn’t eager to be there, it’s discovered he has a talent for healing magic which gets him press ganged into the recovery corps. It has genuine humor, character growth, and an interesting premise that gets it up to Read It Now.

Weltall takes us into Demon Spirit Seed Manual. Some guy from our world gets transported into a magical world full of magical magicness. He assumes he’s the main character in a manga and that he must have talent of some sort. Hearing his hubris, the author gives him a sliver of green gardening magic. We’re spared seven hundred volumes of weeding by him hatching a Demon Spirit Seed which sends him on a quest to collect them all and getting a Read It Now

Manga Pulse 372: Perfect Sherlock

Can you imagine if there was a Rick and Morty manga? The combined smugness of the weebs and R&M fans would be enough to destroy the world as we know it. Crushing everything into a ball or self righteous, self referential memes that exist only to masturbate the knowing. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 372: Perfect Sherlock”

Manga Pulse 371: Helcker Selcker

Uh yes, I’d like to order a large pizza half pesto and half chicken and avocado. What do you mean you only serve Tex-Mex? And that my order sounds stupid? Well I’m just going to back my car out of the wall I broke and go to a quality establishment. Good day to you. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 371: Helcker Selcker”

Manga Pulse 370: ActMan

Clippety cloppity, get your dick beaters off my property. That’s going to be our custom car alarm if we ever manage to make such a thing. Or maybe we can just run a crowdfunding campaign for it, raise a bunch of money and the stop updating two years after it closes and just hope no one finds out where we live. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 370: ActMan”

Manga Pulse 369: D-D-D-D-Dill

Uh oh. This episode has a certain number combination within it. One that we can’t help but notice will cause people to giggle uncontrollably. Well get all your hyuks out over thirty-six because we all know no one lives to be that old. If they tried, the sandmen would come and get them. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 369: D-D-D-D-Dill”

Manga Pulse 368: Kill Evan

After climbing through sewers, sifting through coins and murdering random plants, the acid has finally worn off. Tim and Weltall have climbed back out, cleaned themselves off, posted bail, and broke into a closed Borders warehouse to read some manga. It took them a long time to find something original buried among the unsold copies of Princess Ai.

Tim reviews Hoankan Evans no Uso. This is basically what happens when when a mangaka snorts meth and watches a Sergio Leone marathon. It’s about a legendary lawman in some vague part of the Old West. While he’s proficient at catching criminals, he has yet to land a girlfriend and is contstantly stirking our while trying to use his father’s advice which fails. Once some characters are established, the plot picks up and the humor begins working getting it up to Crackers.

Weltall then digs into Dolly Kill Kill. It’s about rejected character designs from Five Nights at Freddy’s suddenly appearing and ushering in the apocolypse. The first couple of chapters set things up and skip forward about a year. Our main character finds a group of survivors who are attempting to find the creatures weaknesses. Give the strong characterization and solid story, it earns a Read it Now.

Manga Pulse 367: Darwin’s Baby

The best part about sports cars are they have more vroom. Your regular car? Not nearly as much vroom as a sports car. That’s why you want a sports car but you won’t be able to afford one until you’re older and by then people will just say you’re having a midlife crisis. You’ll still buy it though because you’ve been taught to want more vroom and can mentally justify it as deserved. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 367: Darwin’s Baby”

Manga Pulse 366: Douche Magoo

It it time to bring the pair out of cryosleep and review manga. After a small injection of vitamins and calories, we will dispatch them to the recording bridge for a session of mumbled words and discussion. If we have timeWhich is kind of weird. Why would you need to pass a magic test to see if you can get into the only magic school around? It settles down to a Borders.

Weltall then dives into Darwin’s Game, a manga where members of the Neo-Catholic Church are being killed by the mysterious “Darwin”. Or some dude gets dragged into a death game via a cell phone invite. Everyone playing seems to have powers and don’t die permanently unless they’re out of points. It’s realistic enough in character reactions that it earns a Read It Now. to apply caffiene, they may even be coherent enough to review a couple of manga or whatever the term is based on the local.

Tim reviews Spirit Blade Mountain, a manhua where there’s a magic mountain where all the magic people go to train. Our main character is maybe twelve and maybe the chosen one. He gets into the school and immediately begins the trial to even be accepted.

Manga Pulse 365: Tachi Wachi Lan Wan

It’s rolypoly season finally and the boys are busy cracking open cold ones and getting rekt. Is that how you use such internet slang? We are sure how to do, fellow kids. We have all the dank memes, lol, rofl. By this point we have frightened away both the internet hooligans for misusing slang and the fogeies who are confused by terms they could look up on Urban Dictionary but don’t. Leaving only the hardiest and sexiest of out listeners. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 365: Tachi Wachi Lan Wan”

Manga Pulse 364: Go Jo

Let’s make a wild hipster prediction. Tiny house breweries covered in reclaimed aluminum siding and vintage asbestos paint. What could be more retro and kooky than risking death be mesothilioma? Yeah, you’ve probably never heard of it. Look away as I ride my kickboard away in a flash of ninteies flannel and beard oils. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 364: Go Jo”
