Popcorn Pulse 46: Now You See Dick

As we hadn’t time to get our hands on a copy of a film which was suggested, we had to go with a second choice. We jointly discuss Now You See Me[2013], featuring the teaming up of Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson once more.

It features a team of four magicians who get recruited into a super secret society of magic. They go on a string of illusions/heists while pursued by the Hulk during some of his down time. This would explain why he was too busy to aid Captain America during the events of Winter Soldier.

Weltall then talks about Automata[2014], a film which Tim has seen. We both judged it to be the most pretentious film about AI in recent memory. This movie did fix one thing for the world. If you have ever heard someone use the term “artsy-fartsy” and didn’t have a solid metric for reference, now you do. You can simply buy a copy of this for about a nickel, it’ll be buried under the unsold copies of Taxi[2004] in the “please take bin”, and carry it with you.

Tim then talks about Super 8[2011]. Which is difficult, considering he won’t stop telling J.J. to perform sex acts upon himself. He describes it basically as a love letter to Spielberg, thanking him for making E.T. If you’ve ever wanted to watch a science fiction movie built with rejected action figures, brought to life with all the nuance of a five year old borrowing heavily from the afternoon programming on SyFy, then Super 8 is for you.

  1. Isla Fisher’s first name is pronounced eye-la, like island without the “nd”. She’s married to Sacha Baron Cohen.

Telly Savalas played Blofeld in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (starring George Lazenby as James Bond) but is most famous for playing Kojak on TV.
