Episode 541: How To Raise A Certain Scientific Railgun

This week on Anime Pulse we talk about bullying, and the scary protective father that Joseph would be if he were to have a daughter. Reminder: Never mess with big daddy Joseph. Andrew on the other hand has been playing more Resident Evil 7 and fired a gun for the first time, which is actually a lot lighter of a topic than Joseph’s IRL news. In reviews, Joseph gets some odd rush from a heroins death stare and Andrew is getting down with the Yuri railguns.

  1. In response to the podcasts on android, there are a lot of them on the play store. The one I am using right now is an app called pocket casts which I and a lot of other people found out to be less buggy than than Apple’s podcast app when I bought it 2 years ago. It is a paid app however. There are other free apps on the pla store but I won’t be able to tell you about the amount of content that they have or how stable the app is.

  2. I wanna watch Railgun myself some day, but I’ve kinda been b u rned out on that universe since I binged Index. Probably not the healthiest thing to do, but that series had so much potential that I just had to keep on watching. Shame the series moves backwards in terms of plot and characterization until it gets stuck in a repetitive and bland rut. The swordswoman that Joe mentioned, Kanzaki, is a perfect example of this. She starts out like a total badass, then vanishes from the plot almost completely and when she returns she’s nothing but another obsessive, lovestruck lady who wants to ride Touma’s… fist.

Thankfully your review of Railgun makes it sound like it’s at least better than Index, which is all I hoped for really.

  3. I can definitely understand where you’re coming from, I too watched Index before Railgun and almost didn’t want to be involved with the franchise ever again because of it (It’s probably clear though that I really dislike Index though). I can definitely see where you’re coming from when you speak of potential and I agree.

I’m glad that’s what came across because yes, I fully believe it’s better than Index. Anyways I’ll give this comment a full and proper response next recording because you make some good points worth addressing. Just thought I’d comment ahead of time also.

Thanks as always for your comments!

    Sincerely,
    Andrew

  4. [SIDE NOTE: I came to realize that this may be a bit long. So feel free to paraphrase if you do read it on the podcast]

Ah, Star Driver. That was a stylish anime. I have it on my Hulu list to finish, but there’s so much older anime to finish! Speaking of Star Driver, if Joseph likes Star Driver, I think he may adore Darling in the FranXX. No actual harem in the show, but there are girls of all sorts in the show. In fact, the mecha- the FranXX- are actually females! I don’t just mean that they are shaped like females. I mean that their faces are fully articulated, and they walk and talk like moe girls. Darling in the FranXX is way more silly than the PV led me to believe.

Oh, I bring up Star Driver because part of this anime’s creation involves designs from the same mecha designer of Star Driver. So the FranXX look very human and gangly. Darling in the FranXX also has A LOT of double entendre and sex puns, because it’s a Trigger show, and the theme of this show is sex, just like Kill la Kill’s theme was nudity and clothing.

Moving on to the Metal Gear games- wow, AP talks video games, VGP talks anime, and MP tries to talk about everything except manga. Anyhoo, the ending (or lack of ending) for Metal Gear Solid V makes me feel weird about recommending it to anyone who still might want to play it. It’s a good game, but the story is technically incomplete. We definitely know how it ends, but as a standalone story, Kojima got fucked by Konami; “Fuck Konami!” as Jim Sterling would say.

So it’s funny that MGS 4 felt like it had too many cutscenes, and MGS V is probably 3 times as long, but fans like me want more.
