Episode 482: Your Favorite Kind Of Thing

It’s a new episode of Anime Pulse, this week brought to you by your now dead hosts who have been slain by the previous hosts for making fun of their favorite things. But fear not, Red and Ryo both made a save state before taking a bankai sword to the gut and a few hypodermic needles to the brain. Before all that happened though, there was this show where Red and Ryo talked about bad girlfriends in anime, apologetic Ghibli producers, and plenty of off topic discussions in-between. Then they cap off the show with two reviews, one of the slice of life Aiura and the other the almost hentai Shinmai Mao no Testament. Continue reading “Episode 482: Your Favorite Kind Of Thing”

Manga Pulse 349: Foreign Words

This week we managed a whole show where we didn’t talk about politics once. Yes, not even in passing. Instead we talked about movies quite a bit as we are wont to do even when the theme is manga. Because that’s just kind of what we do around here. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 349: Foreign Words”

Sailor Business Guest Spot

What’s this business? Is something no one in their right mind would ever say unless they’d recently suffered a head injury after entering a Big Lots(the business is keeping people from noticing they’re in a Big Lots). This wouldn’t be something you would ask of Sailor Business. Not to be confused with Business Sailor, a meme that failed to gain traction after the popularity of Business Hotdog and Cheez Face McGee.

Our very own Vanessa did a guest spot over at Sailor Business. They are a podcast dedicated to episode by episode discussion of the original run of Sailor Moon. In preparation of this, Vanessa watched a couple episodes with Tim. He was somewhat confused and had a few comments which Vanessa mentioned on the show.

You should go there(http://www.wax-work.com/sailor/) and give them a listen. Especially if you’re a fan of Sailor Moon.

Popcorn Pulse 53: Hard Clint

Today we jointly discuss a Clint Eastwood movie, The Beguiled(1971). While he has a large filmography, we wanted to avoid a number of the more well known films by Mister McSquinty. Plus the opening scene was so awful that when Wetall saw it, telling him we had to do this. Continue reading “Popcorn Pulse 53: Hard Clint”

VG Pulse 257: E3 Hype Train

All this and more up next on VGP 257! -Aki Continue reading “VG Pulse 257: E3 Hype Train”

Manga Pulse 348: Get Old

Are you fans of digression and roundabout discussions? Because we are in full form this episode. Weltall sounds like a geriatric reporter padding their social security with opinon pieces on CNN by saying “millenials”. Tim keeps trying to steer it back to the show’s center to no avail. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 348: Get Old”

Episode 481: Assassins in School

Look out behind you, because you might very well be the next target of the notorious Anime Pulse assassins; Red and Ryo. They first begin with a flashback to their respective pasts, tragic pasts filled with retirement parties and school work. Then they sneak in close and whisper in your ear with industry news, covering topics like who not to date in anime and how to properly enjoy a meal while wearing a paper bag. Finally they pull out their rubber knives and stick you like a roast pig, filling you with a sense of what it feels like to be yellow octopus or a scar covered pretty girl. What’s that? None of this made any sense? Well I guess you’ll just have to listen to the show and learn the truths behind my cryptic words.

Popcorn Pulse 52: Fish Boat

If there’s one thing Hollywood, and filmmakers in general, are good at, it’s realizing that there’s a calendar in their office. We’re pretty certain that’s the reason why there was an abundance of films centered around the new millennium released, of course, right around the turn of the millennium.

So it’s quite a surprise that there is a movie called Millennium(1989) which has nothing to do with the year two thousand nor about the much feared Y2K “bug”. It has to do with time travel where people from a thousand years in the future show up to kidnap people before they can die in a plane crash while leaving doppelgangers behind. Also, there are “time-quakes”. No, really.

Weltall then talks about Swordfish[2001]. A movie we may have already talked about but couldn’t find any proof of the fact. It features Hugh Jackman pretending to be a hacker which is almost as unbelievable as Halle Berry as a golfer. Did we mention Halle golfs in this? We imagine that the clip of her swing will be what Jack Nicklaus will have to watch on endless loop in the afterlife. It will be as penance for all those crappy cartridge games that slapped his name on them.

Tim then talks about the remake, Poseidon[2006]. Not only is it rather unnecessary it’s got enough CGI that it serves as a tourist brochure for the Matrix. The main characters come together for apparently no reason to go to the engine room after the ship is overturned. People die off in order of billing and randomly end up imperiled while not knowing how the got there.
