Episode 547: Tsurezure Citrus: Clear by Moment

Ho boy, you feel that? That’s a good buzz! Holy crap! That Gran Gala is some good stuff! Oh, but you didn’t to hear a drunk man rant, so here’s the highlights: We got Joseph talking about how bad Mass Effect Andromeda is, and Andrew rushing past his IRL news to go straight into AP community stuff. After wards Joseph covers news about how Harvey Weinstein was “defeated” by Studio Ghibli, and Andrew brings up the fact a very old hotel that inspired Hanario will be closing it’s doors. And then comes the finale, a hybrid show! Andrew has three previews ranging from cute cardcaptors to fruity yuri, and Joseph reviews his favorite anime of 2017.

Manga Pulse 373: Magic Seed

It’s finally come to pass that we’ll be getting back to doing recommendations for manga very soon. Likely by the next show as it were. We’ve finally caught up on the emails and sorted through the backlog that we let pile up like idiots. Oh, and Tim mentions he’s been combing through videos about recording and voice over, particularly Booth Junkie’s channel on Youtube for those interested in such things.

Tim starts us off by talking about The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. Three students from our world are summoned to a magical kingdom to help fight off the newly risen demon king. No, stifle that yawn right now. While the main character isn’t eager to be there, it’s discovered he has a talent for healing magic which gets him press ganged into the recovery corps. It has genuine humor, character growth, and an interesting premise that gets it up to Read It Now.

Weltall takes us into Demon Spirit Seed Manual. Some guy from our world gets transported into a magical world full of magical magicness. He assumes he’s the main character in a manga and that he must have talent of some sort. Hearing his hubris, the author gives him a sliver of green gardening magic. We’re spared seven hundred volumes of weeding by him hatching a Demon Spirit Seed which sends him on a quest to collect them all and getting a Read It Now

Popcorn Pulse 78: Highlander… again

If there’s one thing that needed to be made, it was a sequel to Highlander. Unfortunately what we got was The Quickening. Much as the only way to get the bad taste of a chocolate out of your mouth is to eat seven more, so did we get inundated with sequels.

We visit with the fifth of them in, Highlander The Source[2007] under the hypothesis that the even numbered ones will always be garbage. While this is probably true, the odd numbered ones are just as incoherent. Featuring random blob immortals, the guy who played Duncan McCloud and a host of plotless destiny mumbly jumbly.

Weltall then talks about Hell or High Water[2016]. A movie in which the aptly named Chris Pine woodenly pretend to be bothered by the fact that the family ranch is going to be taken over by the bank. Sure he’s playing opposite Ben Foster but Pine manages to resemble a piece of furniture that it turns into Clint Eastwood having a conversation with an empty chair. So they rob banks to pay for the land, somehow.

Tim then talks about What We Do in the Shadows[2014]. In it, vampires are real and being filmed by a documentary crew for some reason, as it goes in these style of films. The group ends up getting dragged into the twenty first century by the friend of their newest member who installs the internet for them. Along the journey to modernization they meet werewolves, zombies and revenants. There’s really not much to say about other than it expertly performs as a mockumentary.

Episode 546: A Clocksmith’s Wet Dream

Joseph and Andrew are back with their second ever joint review, this one with the question of “what if the world was a clock?” in mind. Before we get to that though, Joseph bought a handful of new video games and Andrew saw the new Marvel movie about a black cat. Industry news also comes ahead of the joint review, with topics like a mangaka who think piracy isn’t totally to blame for the poor sales of manga and Goku has a new power level.

Episode 545: Winter 2018 Previews #4

This week Anime Pulse is all about being serious, all the anime they preview this week is serious and not joking at all. That said, IRL news sees Joseph talking about work and taxes, and Andrew mentions Fire Emblem Heroes in passing before jumping into the front page and forum comments. Then in industry news we cover topics about a cafe revolving around boobies being separated by a strap, and a thought provoking bit about fan translators being arrested. Finally previews comes along with Andrew’s serious previews of a serious anime and seriously not serious anime, and Joseph’s not-sure-if-want reaction to more deadly sins.
