Episode 517: A GATEd Centuar’s Fruits

This week’s episode of Anime Pulse is a bit of a hybrid, as Joseph tackles a review while Andrew continues on with previews. We got your typical tangents about movies, life, and baking. Then industry news has us discussing the ideal Japanese husband and that mini-game in DoA: Extreme Beach Volleyball about bumping butts, followed by a review of a Lolita Goddess who gets off on killing and a couple previews about fake magical girls and a strange centaur anime.

Manga Pulse 366: Douche Magoo

It it time to bring the pair out of cryosleep and review manga. After a small injection of vitamins and calories, we will dispatch them to the recording bridge for a session of mumbled words and discussion. If we have timeWhich is kind of weird. Why would you need to pass a magic test to see if you can get into the only magic school around? It settles down to a Borders.

Weltall then dives into Darwin’s Game, a manga where members of the Neo-Catholic Church are being killed by the mysterious “Darwin”. Or some dude gets dragged into a death game via a cell phone invite. Everyone playing seems to have powers and don’t die permanently unless they’re out of points. It’s realistic enough in character reactions that it earns a Read It Now. to apply caffiene, they may even be coherent enough to review a couple of manga or whatever the term is based on the local.

Tim reviews Spirit Blade Mountain, a manhua where there’s a magic mountain where all the magic people go to train. Our main character is maybe twelve and maybe the chosen one. He gets into the school and immediately begins the trial to even be accepted.

Episode 516: Summer Previews #2

Continuing their look into the anime of the summer, Joseph and Andrew are back with another set of four shows. VG Pulse 285: Complicated Simplicity

This week on VG Pulse, we start and end with sad news, but hopefully fill the middle with entertainment! We start off with side notes of the sad reason why we missed a show last week, before diving into the ezmails where I get to talk about my favorite show of all time! Afterwards, we head off into what little news there was, before going over the forum and setting forth a new topic of discussion! We then head off into our joint first look of Factorio, and finish off with talk of anime and more sad news! All this and more up next on VGP 285! -Aki Continue reading “VG Pulse 285: Complicated Simplicity”

Episode 515: Summer Previews #1

A new episode a new cohost, and this time it’s for good. Andrew Chan returns to take up the mantel of cohost, picked by listeners and commentators alike and just in time for round 1 of summer previews. IRL news is up first as usual with Joseph already complaining about work, and Andrew talking about his recent move. Industry news is next with topics like Asuna’s boobies, Anime in VR, and Ranma stamps that make you feel old. And of course the previews round out the show, a total of four altogether with some keepers and some not so much.

Popcorn Pulse 70: Police Panda

What happens when you take the guy who played Angel in X-Men 3 and put him in a film that is a spiritual adaptation of Dead Space? Nothing until you add in another Popcorn Pulse Alumni Dennis Quaid. Jointly, we talk about Pandorum[2009].

A terribly advertised movie with trailers that seemed to try and invoke the memories of Event Horizon. It’s set on a spaceship where Ben Foster wakes up with amnesia. He quickly runs into Dennis Quaid who gives him the quest to bring the core back online before it blows up the ship. As Ben makes his way through the ship, fighting possible space madness and reavers, he begins to learn that things aren’t quite what they seem. We fully spoil the twist of the movie within the episode though. Continue reading “Popcorn Pulse 70: Police Panda”

Episode 514: All Otakus Go To Fantasy Heaven

Joseph’s all alone again, playing both the host and cohost this week. After explaining why this is, he proceeds to announce the winner of the contest for cohost! A big round of applause to everyone who participated, and look forward to hearing more detailed reviews from Andrew Chan. Aside from the announcement there is your usual fair of IRL and industry news, followed by Joseph’s review of the humor educing KonoSuba. Season 1 that is.

Manga Pulse 365: Tachi Wachi Lan Wan

It’s rolypoly season finally and the boys are busy cracking open cold ones and getting rekt. Is that how you use such internet slang? We are sure how to do, fellow kids. We have all the dank memes, lol, rofl. By this point we have frightened away both the internet hooligans for misusing slang and the fogeies who are confused by terms they could look up on Urban Dictionary but don’t. Leaving only the hardiest and sexiest of out listeners. Continue reading “Manga Pulse 365: Tachi Wachi Lan Wan”

Script 2 Script 11: 20,000 Leagues

It’s about that time where we do a novel of Tim’s choice. He picked 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It’s the earliest book we’ve done thus far and a classic in science fiction. Plus any novel that opens up with a jab at Nebraska is alright in our book. Even better is knowing that some versions omitted it because the translators weren’t happy about it.

Our protagonist, Arronax, joins an expedition with a harpooner and his valet. They’re off to investigate reports of a narwhal that is striking and sinking ships. This journey is completely uneventful and Arronax spends most of his time swapping recipes with the crew while they sight see. Once they return to land, he publishes the first marine based cookbook and becomes wildly popular. Continue reading “Script 2 Script 11: 20,000 Leagues”
