Oh fuck. It’s recording day and we haven’t even read the assignment. Time to grab a slice of toast and then run to the APC we use to ferry ourselves to school. And by school we mean our jobs. By slice of toast, we mean an energy drink with a caffeine pill dissolved in it. By late we mean we’re on our way to Human Resources to tell them to suck a fat one. By fat one we mean that they’re invited to the farewell party for Sheryll because we don’t think anyone remembers the folks in HR. They do good work.
So we have Tucker and Dale Vs Evil[2010]. You may or may not recall this film which was well received. The premise starts as a parody of the hillbilly slasher genre. A rather popular setting for horror films at the time. The beginning is promising, having the “evil hillbillies” have misunderstandings with the visiting college kids. Things sort of fall apart as the film goes on and we talk about how that happens.
Tim then has Vibes(1988). It’s a Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum film where they’re a pair of psychics. They get recruited by Peter Falk to hunt down a Peruvian site which may have a lot of psychic energy stored in a pyramid. Also, Falk is pretty much doing Columbo the entire time and Goldblum is his tall, oddball self. Also Cyndi can’t act.
Weltall has Evil[2019]. It’s a TV series that just recently ended. It begins with a priest and a skeptic lady. Throw in a cigarette smoking demon and you might have grounds for a copyright suit. Shockingly the series doesn’t just lean one way or the other on whether demons are real or not. Plus Wallace Shawn gets a role later and walks the line between ham and serious which seals his performance.
