Popcorn Pulse 230: 44 Kings

Take a look, there is no book. Because this isn’t the Reading Rainbow. This is Popcorn Pulse and we do movies. So how about a movie that was written by the same guy who did LA Confidential? You might remember it as the movie which got a lot of buzz back in the nineties. Going so far as to get Oscar noms. You can imagine a writer might try to get lightning to strike twice after that. Because everybody wants both Hollywood money and acclaim.

We bring you Street Kings[2008]. It stars Keanu as a cop who drinks and is depressed. He had a falling out with his partner, played by Terry Crews, who he believes has reported him to Internal Affairs. A clear hit takes out Crews and Reeves starts investigating on his own. Lots of beatings and corruption go everywhere. Also Chris Evans in a role where he’s not snarking or being Captain America is nice.

Tim has Catch .44[2011]. The synopsis everywhere will try and tell you this is about three female assassins. There are three ladies, two of who that die really early on. There’s also Forest Whitaker and Bruce Willis who have a little fun with their roles. But mostly everyone is obnoxious, says fuck too much, and are generally unlikable.

Weltall has Fargo – Season 1. This is the season that convinced the Cohen brothers to get involved with the show. People do a lot of dumb things and Weltall speculates that this is an indictment of the writers and how they view mid-westerners. Which might explain why everyone in the cast is rock stupid and either gets away with crimes or caught because they screw up.
