Popcorn Pulse 233: China Girl

Get ready to have triple vision. That’s like being drunk twice with one eye closed. We only ask that you try and take that same patience you might have when drunk as we go over this. Because it’s going to sound a little repetitive but this will have a payoff.

We start with China Girl(1942). Johnny Williams is an American reporter who’s freelancing in China during the breakout of WWII. He escapes the Japanese and runs off to an unoccupied China to wheel an deal among people. He gets caught up by a girl and drawn into fighting against the Japanese after they bomb her school. Also there’s a traitorous Frenchman.

Next up is China Girl(1974). This is a seventies adult film and is rated X. So you’ll have next to no luck finding it on the IMDB unless you search the only notable actor and go to it via his filmography, James Hong. The plot is so thin you can see all the boning through it. Mostly an evil organization uses sex to “torture” people into giving up their secret research so that org, Dragon, can sell it.

Last up, China Girl(1987). This is more of a regular film once more. With a young David Caruso as a smaller character. This is set in some city like New York where Chinese immigrants are moving in. This sets up a Chinatown that rubs up against Italiantown and the friction between them. Then one of the Italian guy starts to date one of the Chinese girls and it’s basically just Romero and Juliet.
