Popcorn Pulse 235: I Saw January

It’s still January and whoa doggy has it been a month. Luckily we’re still here and have a set of movies. One of which contains the very month we rerecorded it. We should almost seek out a full calendar set of movies and review them in the month they share a name with. Anywho, we have The January Man(1989).

Kevin Kline is a disgraced police officer or maybe detective. This means he’s now a firefighter. Until a serial killer murders a socialite. His brother, played by Harvey Keitel, brings him back onto the force to investigate. Also he starts banging the mayor’s daughter. But at least Alan Rickman got a bit more work early in his career out of this.

Tim then has I Saw the Devil[2010]. A Korean film about a serial killer. He kills the daughter of their FBI equivalent who was also engaged to another agent. Mister Agent goes on leave, hunts down the prime suspect until her gets to the guilty party and starts torturing him. It’s a bit of a revenge film and there’s a bit of satisfaction as the bad guy gets what’s coming to him.

Weltall has Van Helsing[2004]. You might remember this as the era when bad CGI ran face first into fantasy action films. This is a bit of a mess where Hugh Jackman is the titular Van Helsing. He’s immortal and he hunts monsters. We meet him hunting My Hyde. The bigger antagonist though is Dracula who’s busy trying to find Frankenstein’s monster so he can bring his undead children to life. Also he can only be killed by a werewolf because why the hell not.
